Sensual Seduction – The five senses in art

Guided tours and events from September to December

The idea of "Zoom In" is to immerse yourself for 6 months in a specific theme related to our permanent exhibition at the Villa Vauban. We invite you to participate in guided tours, lectures by specialists, concerts or tastings.

During the months of September 2022 to February 2023, the five senses will be on display: taste, smell, sight, hearing and touch. The five human senses are among the most varied and attractive subjects in European painting. While the senses had a largely negative aura in antiquity and the Middle Ages - as misleading and sinful - their perception changed with the increasing rationalisation of thought in the 17th century. Discover the many works in our permanent collection that evoke one or more of the senses - the special "Zoom In" programme at the Villa Vauban will awaken all your senses!

SPECIAL EVENINGS

The Senses of Painting

Sensory experience with wine tasting

Access to a work of art is not only intellectual but also emotional and sensory. This workshop will offer the spectator the possibility to 'dive inside' three selected paintings: to guess their scents, to caress their textures, to enjoy their music, to perceive their flavours. The culmination of this artistic journey of discovery will be a tasting of three wines, each of which will be matched to a different painting, thus completing this moment of sensory fulfillment with an excellent taste experience.

Public: Adults
Dates: Fridays 14.10 (FR), 18.11 (EN)
Time: 18:00 - 20:00
Tariff: 15€
Max. participants: 20

GUIDED TOURS - With Nathalie Becker

The taste of colours

Workshop for kids

People perceive their environment through all their senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch). Is this also the case for colours? Can we really smell or taste colours? What does yellow taste like? Does blue smell like the sea or nothing at all like air? Together with the museum guide you will find out if colours have a taste. You will make your own edible finger paints and make them taste good!
